MATCH REPORTS:
2008 has been a relatively good year for the City of London Bowling Club. We played host to an historic and prestigious meeting between the inaugural 2008 Bowls England President Cliff Waterman and the President of Bowls Asia & the Malaysian Bowls Federation Tun Dato’ Seri Ahmad Sarji. The first time these two bowling associations had met formally for talks.
On a County scale the club reached three Middlesex County Bowling Association finals, winning the coveted Middlesex CBA Fours title through the efforts of John O Flynn, Steve Brewer, Andy Leeks, Simon Evans. Who just failed to reach the inaugural Bowls England National Championships Fours Q-Final by just 9 shots. However the four did go on to reach the final of the Home Counties Bowling Association Fours Championships.
The club had two players (Andy Leeks & Simon Evans) represent Middlesex County Bowling Association in the Middleton Cup Team and three players (Mark Mansell, Andy Leeks & Simon Evans) represent Middlesex County Bowling Association in the Home Counties League Team.
It was also good to see John O Flynn and Steve Brewer awarded their Middlesex County Bowling Association badges on becoming Middlesex County Champions (Fours).
Richard Gascoigne also represented Middlesex County Bowling Association in his first Inter-County match playing against Derbyshire County Bowling Association at Long Eaton.
In the 2008 London and Southern Counties Bowling Association Finals held at Bounds Green Bowling Club Steve Brewer won the coveted Lonsdale Singles Trophy. Winning the club its first London & Southern Counties BA title in the short time that we have been affiliated.
In the 2008 London Parks Bowling Association Finals held at Paddington Bowling Club Andy Leeks was hoping to secure the Singles crown, but came a close second on the day. Losing 21-17 to the eventual winner from Wanstead Central Bowling Club. The City of London Bowling Club has had representation in four London Parks BA finals over the last two years.
The City of London Bowling Club played host to the 2008 North London Thursday District Bowling Association Finals. It was pleasing to see the North London Thursday Distirct BA Pairs title won on home soil through the impressive efforts of Darren Henson & Andy Leeks.
The Club has had two new signings for the 2009 season so far, one being Chris Cleaver a member of the 2007 Devon County Bowling Association Middleton Cup Squad and 2008 Budleigh Salterton Bowling Club Mens Open Singles Champion.
